Brasswind is bringing back the classic horn band sound and look that's been missing for quite some time. The Tower of Power, Chicago, Earth, Wind, & Fire, James Brown, The Temptations, Buddy Miles, Michael Jackson, and so much more!!!!!!

Brasswind started in November of 2017. All friends with one another but hardly ever playing together in the same room...they all decided it was time

Eric Musselwhite - Tenor Sax

Where are you from?  Newport News, VA

When did you start playing?   As a teen in the Mid 80's

Who's music influenced you?  I am heavily influenced by the music my brother pumped out of the stereo in the 70's .  It was mostly jazz and progressive rock.  Later I branched out into soul, funk, and especially Caribbean and Brazilian popular styles.  

What was your first professional performance?  My first paid gig was playing unaccompanied for the opening of the movie "Saint Elmo's Fire" in a movie theater. 

What is your favorite career highlight?  Playing for 80,000 people in Atlanta's Olympic Stadium.  Caught myself making a few mistakes just from gawking at the crowd, but it was way cool and terrifying at the same time.

Curtis Brown  - Tenor Sax and Lead Vocals

Where are you from?  Newport News, VA   Born & Raised

When did you start playing?   Started singing before I could talk, and picked up my horn back in sixth grade in 1993.

Who's music influenced you?  The Temptations, Prince, Dave Matthews Band, and the Tower of Power.  Also Sax greats like Lenny Pickett, Michael Brecker, Maceo Parker, and Adolph Sax.

What was your first professional performance?  My first professional gig was with the Ben Phelps Project and then went to the Michael Clark Band for 12 years.

What is your favorite career highlight?  Sharing the stage with James Brown, Al Green, Robert Cray, The Temptations, and the Four Tops.

Renee Kingan - Bari Sax

Where are you from?  Just outside of Philadelphia in South Jersey

When did you start playing?   In 4th Grade

Who's music influenced you?  Sax giants like Sonny Stitt, Kenny Garrett & Wayne Shorter.

What was your first professional performance?  My first professional gig was with the Disney All-American College Band followed by 10 years with Busch Gardens.

What is your favorite career highlight?  Performing with the Temptations and the Four Tops.

Chris Ward - Trumpet

Where are you from?  Newport News, VA

When did you start playing?   Started playing trumpet in 6th grade band

Who's music influenced you?  Miles Davis, Maynard Ferguson, Chet Baker,  and Arturo Sandoval

What was your first professional performance?  My first gig was at the age of 12 for a church service in Newport News, but my first professional gig was playing trumpet for the Italian Show at Busch Gardens. 

What is your favorite career highlight?  Playing trumpet for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and visiting the beautiful Caribbean Islands.

DaRon Walton - Trumpet

Where are you from?  Danville, VA

When did you start playing?   Started playing trumpet at age 10

Who's music influenced you?  Miles Davis, Lee Morgan,  and Wynton Marsalis.

What was your first professional performance?  My first professional gig was with Vince D. Martino.

What is your favorite career highlight?  Trading fours with Randy Brecker.

Clayton Ives - Drums

Where are you from?  Eglin AFB, Florida

When did you start playing?   6th grade

Who's music influenced you?  Rush, Yes, Toto and the list goes on and on. 

What was your first professional performance?  King Street Pub in Hampton.  I was 16 years old. 

What is your favorite career highlight?  Playing the LA House of Blues New Year's Eve 2001.

Jacob Stith - Guitar

Where are you from? RineyvilleKentucky

When did you start playing?   Picked up the guitar at the age of 14

Who's music influenced you?  I was first influenced by the Beatles.  Was introduced to Jazz through Wes Montgomery.

What was your first professional performance?  My first gig was with Stephen Foster the Musical in Bardstown, KY.

What is your favorite career highlight?  Playing on the Navy's Float in the Mardi Gras Parade.

David Walmsley, Sr. - Bass

Where are you from?   Mount Vernon, NY

When did you start playing?  1973

Who's music influenced you?  Heavily influence by R&B, jazz, and funk...Music from the 70's.

What was your first professional performance?  My first professional gig was with a band called JPT at my high school.

What is your favorite career highlight?  That first gig playing for my friends and schoolmates on my high school stage.

Thom Sauber - Keyboards

Where are you from?  Titusville, PA

When did you start playing?   Started piano lessons at age 4.

Who's music influenced you?  The math of Bach, the monstrous emotion and romantic beauty of Mahler,  Bill Evans, Don Sebesky, Earth Wind and Fire, Todd Rundgren, Paul McCartney and countless others.  

What was your first professional performance?  With a band called Alibi in a bar called Bill's Inn.  I was 17.  

What is your favorite career highlight?  Playing with my son as an adult.
